Penthouse 13

Welcome to our new home!  We closed on this 2bdrm/2bath condo almost 2 weeks ago and it’s just starting to sink in that we actually own a home and have a mortgage, and are really entering the real world.

Don’t let the title fool you though- we’re just on the 6th floor and there are 12 other penthouses, but apparently it sounded more glamorous than 613 so that’s our unit number.  We envision being here at least for the next 5 years and hope to save up to buy a house.  But for now, this is more space than we thought we would have and love being in the city.

I wanted to post some pictures of the unit as it was posted on redfin.  The sellers bought it a year ago to flip so they put in some model furniture.  Not ours 😦  Currently, the condo sits empty with a bottle of champagne in the fridge.

Dan did a great job painting over that ugly red accent wall- here is his first try ever with primer:

I will be moving in probably in the next few weeks, and Dan to follow suit in about 6-7 weeks until the wedding 🙂  Unlike many couples these days, we are going to wait to officially live together until we tie the knot.  Everyone pray that this doesn’t result in a short marriage!! haha

We are very blessed to be able to start our lives together with a new home and lots of new things to fill it from our friends and family.  We can’t wait to have you over!

Updates

Ok ok, I know it’s been awhile.  Stuff has been hectic with the house huntin’.  But I’ve not forgotten about you and am happy to be able to say many of you have aksed me when my next post would be.  I think I can say I’m a blogger now!  <brushing my shoulders off>  I realize I often now think in blog post topics (just like one might think in status updates).  Like ooh, I gotta write about that. and this.  So much I needed to make a list.  So here are a few future posts you can look forward to in random order:

  • Affiliate marketing 101
  • Reality shows
  • Social media
  • Mo Money Mo Problems?
  • BFFs
  • Fitness

But today, I’ll just give you a few updates on what’s been going on.  Wedding stuff has been going well.  I’m extremely surprised at how easy it has been so far.  I’m sure some things will go wrong day of, but for now, everything has been in my control and thus very organized and it’s actually been super fun.  Last weekend we went to pick out tuxes for Dan, the groomsmen, and fathers.  My dad had asked me if he gets to wear a tall black hat, and after thinking about it for awhile, I realized he was referring to a top hat.  No dad, you’re not a ringmaster.  (parents have never been to a wedding)

House hunting on the other hand, has been extremely stressful and not as fun as I thought it would be.  Our first ever offer was turned down and the place eventually foreclosed and it turned up as a short sale.  Our second place was turned down and after months of looking, we were drained.  We had actually emailed our agents after the second failure saying we were going to take a break.  Fate would have that the owners came back with a counter, and after negotiations, they ended up accepting!  HOORAY!

or not?

So I always imagined, if we have the money, and someone agrees to sell, just give me the keys right?  Wrong.  Even after agreement, there were a lot of milestones to overcome, and issues we came across, and one day last week we even thought we might have to back out and both live in my 500 sq ft studio as man and wife.  Luckily, that problem magically disappeared (I think there could have been some bribery involved).  For now, we are looking like we’re in the clear, but we can’t really say for sure until we get the keys.  Our potential closing date is April 6 so I will have to write more about the actual place once we have it for sure.  And you’ll all be invited to the BYOC housewarming (bring your own chair, as we’ll have no furniture- literally, nothing).
