Mo Money Mo Problems?

It’s like the more money we come across/the more problems we see

My friend and I were discussing how this could be true, but only over a certain threshold.  Because, a little mo money is going to solve a lot of problems for us right now.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Biggie is/was worth about $160 MM.  It doesn’t clarify if this includes all his post death sales, etc., but let’s use this number.  It probably wasn’t this much when he died either.

I think the dollar figure is far less than $160MM though, but not just a lil mo.  I’m thinking it’s got to be at least in the tens of millions for it to start being problematic.  Even if someone gave me $5 MM right now, I’d just buy a house and a car and most of it would be gone, no?  Perhaps it starts somewhere north of $50MM.

Another friend and I were discussing money over lunch as well, and it also matters where you think you’re at relative to your friends.  Guy Kawasaki recently tweeted an article about this- that you are more happy only relative to your friends and the people around you.  Even if you made a million dollars, if all your friends made 2 million, you would feel unhappy.

I definitely have monetary goals in my life and am working hard to achieve them.  Money isn’t everything, but it helps in a lot of different ways to achieve other life goals more comfortably.

On the topic of rap, here’s my all time favorite rap line, from Forgot about Dre.  It’s bolded but I added the lines around for context:

I told em all – all them little gangstas
Who you think helped mold em all?
Now you wanna run around talkin bout guns like I aint got none
What you think I sold em all?

Cause I stay well off
Now all I get is hate mail all day sayin dre fell off

Dre seems pretty insecure here and this line just cracks me up.  He must proclaim, yes, he indeed, still owns and possesses guns, so don’t mess with him.  I love it.

Updates

Ok ok, I know it’s been awhile.  Stuff has been hectic with the house huntin’.  But I’ve not forgotten about you and am happy to be able to say many of you have aksed me when my next post would be.  I think I can say I’m a blogger now!  <brushing my shoulders off>  I realize I often now think in blog post topics (just like one might think in status updates).  Like ooh, I gotta write about that. and this.  So much I needed to make a list.  So here are a few future posts you can look forward to in random order:

  • Affiliate marketing 101
  • Reality shows
  • Social media
  • Mo Money Mo Problems?
  • BFFs
  • Fitness

But today, I’ll just give you a few updates on what’s been going on.  Wedding stuff has been going well.  I’m extremely surprised at how easy it has been so far.  I’m sure some things will go wrong day of, but for now, everything has been in my control and thus very organized and it’s actually been super fun.  Last weekend we went to pick out tuxes for Dan, the groomsmen, and fathers.  My dad had asked me if he gets to wear a tall black hat, and after thinking about it for awhile, I realized he was referring to a top hat.  No dad, you’re not a ringmaster.  (parents have never been to a wedding)

House hunting on the other hand, has been extremely stressful and not as fun as I thought it would be.  Our first ever offer was turned down and the place eventually foreclosed and it turned up as a short sale.  Our second place was turned down and after months of looking, we were drained.  We had actually emailed our agents after the second failure saying we were going to take a break.  Fate would have that the owners came back with a counter, and after negotiations, they ended up accepting!  HOORAY!

or not?

So I always imagined, if we have the money, and someone agrees to sell, just give me the keys right?  Wrong.  Even after agreement, there were a lot of milestones to overcome, and issues we came across, and one day last week we even thought we might have to back out and both live in my 500 sq ft studio as man and wife.  Luckily, that problem magically disappeared (I think there could have been some bribery involved).  For now, we are looking like we’re in the clear, but we can’t really say for sure until we get the keys.  Our potential closing date is April 6 so I will have to write more about the actual place once we have it for sure.  And you’ll all be invited to the BYOC housewarming (bring your own chair, as we’ll have no furniture- literally, nothing).
